New Simba Coach to jet in today

The Newly appointed head coach for Simba FC Patrick Liewing is expected to jet in the country today.

Speaking in a telephone interview, Simba SC chairman Aden Rage said the former manager of the Paris Saint Germain Academy coach main task will be to develop youth football at the club.

He said his club management is very delighted to have landed the services of Liewing who has a very good understanding of African football and youth football development.

“He is coming to coach our senior team as the head coach of Simba SC, but he will also be responsible for youth football development at our club, his background speaks a lot of his achievements as a youth football coach.

“Simba SC is the only team in the country with all youth development structures, we have Under 14, 16, 17 and Under 20, the coming of Liewing will help us a lot” he said.

He said the coach will join the team training tomorrow at   TTC Chang’ombe in Dar es Salaam, where all players are expected to be present.

Simba is undergoing intensive training to prepare for the second round of the Vodacom Premier League and also Confederation of African Football (CAF) games early next year. 

Liewig replaces Serbian Milovan Cirkovic, who guided the club to league glory last season.

The French tactician coached Asec Mimosas of Cote D'Ivoire between 2004 and 2009, winning a couple of domestic cups and leading the club to the semi-finals of the African Champions League in 2009 in 2006 he was nominated with the coach of the Egyptian national team and the coach of Al Ahly for the award of the best coach of Africa.

Meanwhile, Simba SC said they have given their youth team 500.000/- prize money to share among themselves, the youth team was given the money for emerging third in the just ended Uhai Cup which involves under 20 players from premier league clubs.
